Sat-01-Oct-2022 [h] (2-1) W5-1 Greenock Morton (SPFL Championship - game 8)
– A well-taken free-kick (17) put a poor Morton side ahead but Thistle's reply was dominant. Graham got in front of his marker to head home a McMillan cross (27) then Holt climbed highest to finish off a cross. Muirhead slid in to score from 6 yards (55), Holt hit the bar from the spot (60). Tiffoney cut in from the left to score from close in (77). Dowds got the 5th following a corner (84).
Sat-01-Oct-2016 [a] (0-2) L0-2 Rangers (SPFL Premiership - game 7)
– Thistle started well. Edwards should have done better with a header (9) then an excellent dribble and finish put Rangers ahead (31). Gifted possession by Devine on half-way led to the 2nd (39). Erskine hit the post from close in but the second half produced little in the way of a threat. Playing well but still a defeat.
Sat-01-Oct-2005 [a] (2-0) W6-1 Alloa Athletic (SFL Second Division - game 8)
– After several close efforts, Dorrans scored with a powerful shot (24) then Alloa's keeper fumbled a McCulloch shot over the line (30). They reduced the lead just after half-time but Gibson (J) made it 3 (60). 2 goals by Santala (2) and 1 by Gibson (B) made it 6. It was all Thistle and could have been more.
Sat-01-Oct-1994 [a] (0-2) L0-3 Hibernian (SFL Premier Division - game 7)
– Miserable day; miserable performance as Thistle went bottom. Poor defending let Hibs take a 2-goal lead (20 and 22) and Thistle never threatened apart from a brief flurry after half-time. Murdoch had some fine saves then Craig was sent off (“late crunching tackle” (AEE), 89). A sub scored with his only touch of the ball (90).
Tue-01-Oct-1991 [a] (1-2) W3-2 Cowdenbeath (Challenge Cup 1st Round) aet
– AET. Cowdenbeath made all the running and scored with a deflected free-kick (20) then Shaw volleyed in a poor clearance (34) but it was 2-1 soon after. Thistle got increasingly desperate as time ran out then Rae headed in a cross (78). McGlashan got the winner (115) then fine saves by Murdoch avoided pens and blushes.
Sat-01-Oct-1988 [a] (0-1) L1-2 St Johnstone (SFL First Division - game 8)
– Panic set in when Spittal hit his own bar, the rebound was handled on the line by Dempsey and the pen was converted (7). Kelly wasted a good chance on the half-hour. Thistle got back into it when Gallagher shot under the keeper's body for 1-1 but in a breakaway a harmless looking header was deflected past MacLean by Spittal (89).
Sat-01-Oct-1983 [a] (0-1) L0-2 Brechin City (SFL First Division - game 8)
– Injuries and suspensions called for Cormack's only appearance (from the bench). Brechin took the lead (8) when a bouncing ball deceived McNab. It was mainly the home side in attack but a 25-yarder from Buckley went close. They peppered the Thistle goal for most of the second half and a 2nd goal (88) won the points.
Sat-01-Oct-1977 [a] (0-0) L1-2 St Mirren (SFL Premier Division - game 7)
– Thistle took the lead through Somner with a header from a Love free-kick (46). A hotly disputed pen (a blatant dive) led to the equaliser as luck deserted Thistle when the ball went in off Rough's legs (52). Deflated, a shot deflected off Houston past Rough (82) to end a miserable afternoon in Paisley.
Sat-01-Oct-1966 [h] (1-1) D2-2 St Mirren (SFL First Division - game 4)
– Thistle (with new signing Divers) squandered numerous chances. St Mirren scored (6) against the run of play and a 25-yard free-kick by Roxburgh (18) was scant reward for continuous pressure. Saints went ahead (54) despite being on the back foot but a Flanagan pen (83) earned Thistle their 1st point.
Sat-01-Oct-1960 [h] (1-1) W3-1 Hibernian (SFL First Division - game 5)
– The teams traded chances until McParland's header (13). It was mostly Thistle but a pen (40) saw Hibs (bottom and pointless) level. The second half was scrappy and tough. Duffy, on his debut, came in for rough treatment but McParland completed a hat-trick (57 and 61). A comfortable win.
Wed-01-Oct-1958 [n] (0-0) W2-1 Celtic (League Cup Semi Final)
– Ibrox. A heroic and surprise win. Ledgerwood went off injured (49) and played on the wing for half an hour. Celtic frittered away chances while Thistle struggled but McParland (a header, 72) and MacKenzie (a shot on a breakaway, 81) scored before a header off the bar (88) beat stand-in keeper Wright.
Sat-01-Oct-1955 [a] (0-0) L0-1 East Fife (SFL First Division - game 3)
– There was nothing between the teams in a dull first half. Smith and Sharp went close but Ledgerwood was kept busy as well. East Fife had a goal disallowed for off-side just on half-time. Thistle faded in the second half and when Davidson handled in the box, a penalty produced the Fifers' deserved winner (57).
Sat-01-Oct-1949 [h] (1-1) W4-1 Stirling Albion (SFL Division A - game 3)
– Howitt converted a Crawford cross (19) but newly promoted Albion (with a player limping for 85 mins) equalised on the half hour with a fine strike from 15 yards. McCredie converted one of the softest penalties ever given (68) and unlucky Albion seemed deflated. 2 goals by Walker (85 and 89) flattered Thistle.
Mon-01-Oct-1945 [a] (1-1) L1-2 Queen's Park (Glasgow Cup Semi Final replay)
– Queens played some attractive play - particularly on the wings - and took the lead (10) which they held until Candlin equalised with a header just on half-time. For the most part Thistle were “ragged and disconnected” (GH) and asked far too much of McKennan. A 2nd goal by Queens (81) was only what they deserved.
Sat-01-Oct-1938 [a] (2-1) L2-4 Kilmarnock (SFL First Division - game 10)
– Three reserves played at half-back and Kilmarnock had the edge over the weakened Thistle team. Trailing 2-0, Thistle finally got going and Wallace scored from a Linton cross (32). Play was even and open until Kilmarnock scored (86) but a McKennan header made it 3-2 (87). Kilmarnock's 4th (90) slightly flattered them. They joined Thistle on 11 points.
Sat-01-Oct-1932 [a] (1-0) W2-1 Falkirk (SFL First Division - game 9)
– A bad tempered match. Ness hit the post then a Torbet pen made it 1-0 (15, hotly disputed). Jackson was busy and Falkirk had a goal disallowed but they scored (60), Thistle protesting it was hand ball. Torbet converted another pen (85) resulting in stone throwing and demonstrations at the end.
Sat-01-Oct-1927 [a] (0-2) L1-4 Hibernian (SFL First Division - game 8)
– Hibs went 2-up after 15 mins. The 1st was plainly off-side and the 2nd was scored while Calderwood was off injured. For the next hour it was all Thistle who did everything but score then Gibson finally reduced the lead but with both Thistle's backs now injured, Hibs scored 2 more. A flattering win.
Sat-01-Oct-1921 [h] (1-0) W2-1 Raith Rovers (SFL First Division - game 10)
– Thistle went 2-up through goals by Blair (30, on the break and 47, whipped in a Salisbury cross). Rovers only came back into it after half-time. They were the better side for a spell and pulled one back (74) but Campbell was “in one of his best moods” (SC). Over the piece Thistle were good value for the win.
Sat-01-Oct-1910 [h] (2-1) W2-1 Heart of Midlothian (SFL First Division - game 7)
– Thistle raced to a 2-goal lead when Gardiner sent a lob into the goalmouth from 30 yards and the Hearts keeper made a mess of it (4) then Callaghan drove home (9). Hearts steadied and pulled one back before half-time but couldn't find a leveller. “Hearts outplayed by Partick” (AN). Up to 7th.
Sat-01-Oct-1904 [a] (1-0) W1-0 Heart of Midlothian (SFL First Division - game 6)
– Kennedy and Sommen went close then off-side denied Thistle the opener but Kennedy scored soon after. Howden had a number of fine saves to keep Hearts, who had a lot of the play in the second half, at bay. A fine win giving Hearts their 1st home league defeat since Nov 1902 (22 matches).
Sat-01-Oct-1898 [a] (1-2) L1-5 Dundee (SFL First Division - game 6)
– Thistle took the lead through Paul (who scored twice more but the goals were disallowed). Dundee levelled from a free-kick then took a half-time lead. Thistle's play deteriorated (“fagged“ (DET)) in the second half and 3 more goals in the last 15 minutes gave 2nd bottom Dundee their 1st league win.
Sat-01-Oct-1892 [a] (2-2) L2-6 Glasgow Thistle (Scottish Alliance - game 4)
– Thistle (Partick) took the lead through Stewart with a low shot then they lost a man to injury. Simpson was left helpless for 1-1 but the 10 men went further ahead when Murray scored from a combined move. It was 2-2 at half-time however. Eventually 10 v 11 was too much however and the goals came easily.
Sat-01-Oct-1887 [a] (1-0) L1-2 Cowlairs (Glasgow Cup 1st Round)
– Buchanan scored (1) and an excellent game developed with chances at both ends (and some wayward shooting). In the second half 2 quick goals (the 2nd, Burns trying and missing to clear with his feet) made it 2-1. Cowlairs had a goal cancelled by off-side and Paul shot straight at the keeper. Defeat, but close.
