Fri-12-Sep-2025 [h] (0-1) W2-1 Airdrieonians (SPFL Championship - game 5)
– For the most part Thistle were disjointed and they fell behind to a 20-yarder following a corner (3). The keeper denied "T" with a fine save but generally they posed few problems for Airdrie who were compact and "managed" the game. Substitutions finally had an impact. O'Reilly's back-post header at a corner (77) and Samuel's loose-ball shot inside the box (82) earned the points.
Sat-12-Sep-2015 [h] (0-0) L0-1 Dundee (SPFL Premiership - game 7)
– A highalf-timeempo start saw Doolan hit the bar with an overhead kick and Stevenson hit the post with a raking drive. Dundee were increasingly dangerous after half-time and after Stevenson hit the bar with a header, a run from half-way and a fine finish (77) sent Thistle to the bottom with 2 points/2 goals in 7.
Sat-12-Sep-2009 [a] (0-0) D1-1 Raith Rovers (SFL First Division - game 5)
– Rovers' front pair caused lots of problems in the match. Cairney kicked a shot off the line (34) then Buchanan was sent off (“raised his hand”, 41). Rovers took the lead with a header from a corner (65) but they were reduced to 10 men (83) then Doolan equalised with an overhead kick (85). A spirited draw.
Sat-12-Sep-1998 [h] (1-0) W1-0 Stirling Albion (SFL Second Division - game 6)
– Fellow demotees Albion settled quickly and gave Thistle some anxious moments. Bryce scored against the run of play (30), heading in a Kennedy cross. It looked like remaining 1-0 after that and there were few chances at either end until Dunn hit the post from the edge of the box. No more than comfortable.
Sat-12-Sep-1992 [h] (1-1) L1-4 Rangers (SFL Premier Division - game 8)
– Shaw raced clear and shot home (10). Irons missed a golden opportunity to make it 2-0 then Rangers took over. A ball to the back post hit the scorer's back and went in (25), a swerving shot in the top corner (50) and a shot from a corner (60) made it 3. An audacious 40-yard lob from out wide deceived Nelson (75).
Sat-12-Sep-1987 [a] (0-0) L0-5 Hamilton Academical (SFL First Division - game 7)
– Thistle were holding Hamilton (7 wins from 7) comfortably until Scrimgeour (on his debut) was woefully short with a pass-back and let in Hamilton (52). 21 minutes later it was a humiliating 5-0 as f-t Accies tore the defence apart. Law miscued a clearance and caused No 2 and the others were all well-worked moves.
Sat-12-Sep-1981 [h] (0-0) L0-2 Aberdeen (SFL Premier Division - game 3)
– Thistle replaced Aberdeen in bottom spot despite playing some inventive football. Doyle had an excellent game and deserved better than to be on the losing side. 2 goals late in the second half won the points but Aberdeen were “lethargic” (GH) and no better. Warning lights flashing even this early.
Sat-12-Sep-1970 [h] (4-0) W5-0 East Stirlingshire (SFL Second Division - game 3)
– McQuade headed home a Gibson corner (2) then a Bone pen (hand ball, 6) made it 2-0. The visitors came into it but lacked penetration. Bone cracked home a McKinnon header (29) and he completed his hat-trick with a perfect McQuade centre (36). Rae completed a quiet second half (80) for an easy win.
Sat-12-Sep-1964 [a] (0-0) D1-1 Rangers (SFL First Division - game 3)
– “A wearisome game” (GH). Thistle were much improved in defence (Davis was outstanding) but lacking in attack. A poor Rangers team scored (75) when 0-0 had looked most likely then Niven had a magnificent save from a free-kick. Ewing, hemmed in by 2 defenders, prodded in the leveller (82). Cue the boos.
Wed-12-Sep-1962 [h] (0-1) L1-2 Kilmarnock (League Cup Quarter Final, 1st leg)
– A nervy start with lots of wild shooting by both teams. Kilmarnock took the lead (30) with a low shot and Thistle struggled to get back into the game but Smith finally equalised (75). Kilmarnock ran up the park and capitalised on a half-hit headed back-pass by Hogan (76) and they held on comfortably till the end.
Sat-12-Sep-1959 [h] (1-0) W2-0 Third Lanark (SFL First Division - game 3)
– Neither side was totally convincing but Thistle were marginally better than previously unbeaten Thirds. A Donlevy pen (25) gave Thistle an overdue lead and they took command after half-time. Donlevy intercepted a loose pass, set up McParland down the right and Smith smashed the cross home (68).
Wed-12-Sep-1956 [a] (1-1) W2-1 Cowdenbeath (League Cup Quarter Final, 1st leg)
– Poor shooting and good defending kept things tight in a hard, punishing game. Smith side-footed Thistle into the lead (5). It was 1-1 when Ledgerwood saved a pen but the taker scored from the rebound (14). Ewing scored with a header (65) then Wright went off injured (70) but the 10 men held on comfortably.
Sat-12-Sep-1953 [a] (3-1) L3-4 Kilmarnock (League Cup Quarter Final, 1st leg)
– Howitt scored from 16 yards (18) but Second Division Kilmarnock equalised (25). A Wright header from a MacKenzie cross gave Thistle the lead again (27) and a lovely Sharp volley from 20 yards made it 3-1 (35). Thomson was carried off just after half-time (broken leg) and the 10 men conceded 3 goals (61, pen, 72 and 82).
Tue-12-Sep-1950 [a] (1-0) D2-2 Rangers (Glasgow Cup Semi Final)
– Thistle led twice in this match largely through honest hard work. Ledgerwood had 2 great saves before O'Donnell hooked in a McCredie cross (41). Rangers drew level (63) from a goalmouth scramble. MacKenzie set up O'Donnell for his 2nd (72) but poor defensive cover let Rangers in (73) to earn a replay.
Sat-12-Sep-1942 [a] (0-1) D2-2 Hamilton Academical (Southern League - game 5)
– Hamilton scored 24 and 47 and the 2nd strike finally sparked off some decent form from Thistle. McSpadyen (56) and Picken (66) scored and but for good Hamilton defending it might have been a win. Henderson saved a pen. McKennan was at his infuriating best and was too greedy at times.
Sat-12-Sep-1936 [a] (1-0) W2-0 St Johnstone (SFL First Division - game 8)
– 1st away league win since 16 March 1935. St Johnstone wasted numerous chances and paid the price when an angled shot by Smith was fumbled into the net by the keeper (42). A delightful move down the right set up McKennan for the 2nd (58). Sustained pressure late on was mopped up.
Wed-12-Sep-1934 [h] (1-0) D1-1 Motherwell (SFL First Division - game 7)
– Gourlay had a daring save early on but after that Thistle had the best of things and Wyllie scored (17) with a low, hard shot. Motherwell equalised with a well-taken goal (57) then made full use of the off-side trap to deny Thistle a winner. Even so, the forwards didn't do Thistle's general play justice.
Sat-12-Sep-1931 [h] (1-2) L1-3 Rangers (SFL First Division - game 9)
– A patchy performance by top of the league Rangers but 2 early goals (4 and an OG by Calderwood/Jackson mix-up, 14) put Thistle on the back foot and they were jittery at the back. Wyllie scored (30) but a 3rd goal (55) put it beyond doubt. Thistle fought on and a Ness shot was cleared off the line.
Sat-12-Sep-1925 [h] (1-1) L2-3 Falkirk (SFL First Division - game 4)
– A free-kick by Kinloch hit the bar but a penalty by Miller put Thistle ahead (5) then Falkirk levelled (9). It was a hard struggle and both sets of forwards were wayward but Falkirk scored twice (61 and 85) before Grove made it 3-2 (87). Falkirk were stronger and better in attack and deserved the win.
Sat-12-Sep-1914 [h] (0-0) W1-0 Third Lanark (Glasgow Cup Quarter Final)
– 15,000 saw this narrow win. Play was fast throughout and Thistle played some good football, shooting on sight. Brownlie in the Third Lanark goal was a busy man. Ramsay scored the only goal with a strong shot (55). After that play became even but scrappy but Thistle's better forwards made the difference.
Sat-12-Sep-1908 [h] (0-1) D2-2 Third Lanark (Glasgow Cup 1st Round)
– Ibrox. 6,000 people paid £147 and saw Thistle were the better team but goalkeeper Massey hit a clearance off a Thirds forward for the 1st goal. Thistle fell out of the game and Thirds scored again in the second half but they finished the stronger and Ballantyne scored 2 goals (68 and the 2nd on 90).
Sat-12-Sep-1903 [a] (2-0) W3-1 Morton (SFL First Division - game 5)
– Massie gave Thistle the lead (10) then they took advantage of the absence of an injured defender to score again through Kennedy. Gray (W) scored after half-time then, having dominated, Thistle eased off and Morton (back to 11 men) had most of the last 10 minutes and scored once. 2nd top=.
Sat-12-Sep-1896 [h] (0-1) D1-1 Linthouse (Scottish Qualifying Cup 1st Round)
– 2 unbeaten teams fought out an even game. Linthouse held an early lead although Thistle had a goal disallowed. A goal by Paul towards the end earned a replay for Thistle who never gave up.
Sat-12-Sep-1891 [h] (0-2) L2-4 Glasgow Thistle (Scottish Alliance - game 4)
– The Glasgow version scored 1st with a shot in off a post. 15 minutes later it was 2-0. Woods pulled one back after half-time but soon it was 3-1. Woods got his 2nd from a corner but as the game came to an exciting finish Glasgow scored a 4th. “The best team certainly won“ (SR).
Sat-12-Sep-1885 [h] (?-?) W11-0 Granton (Scottish Cup 1st Round)
– The Junior side conceded home advantage for this tie. “The play, as was expected…one-sided, the Partick men doing much as they pleased with the ball” (AN).
