Sat-06-Aug-2022 [h] (0-1) D1-1 Hamilton Academical (SPFL Championship - game 2)
– Thistle dominated but bad luck, lack of sharpness and good goalkeeping played their part. Hamilton scored (43) thanks to a bizarre 20-yard OG by McMillan when a blasted clearance by Mitchell hit off him and in (43). Graham finished off a Fitzpatrick cutback (83) and a fine save denied Lawless a deserved winner in added time.
Sat-06-Aug-2016 [h] (1-0) W2-0 Inverness Caledonian Thistle (SPFL Premiership - game 1)
– It was cagey with sloppy passing by both teams until a flowing move saw Erskine score with a curling left footer (36). ICT had their share of possession but seldom troubled Cerny then a free-kick was stabbed home by Amoo (60). Lawless and Doolan went close as Thistle saw the game out comfortably.
Wed-06-Aug-2014 [h] (1-1) W3-1 Sunderland XI (Friendly)
– Poor defending at a corner (15) made it 0-1 but Thistle fought back and chances came then Elliott headed in at the back post (18). A quickly taken free-kick set up Lawless for a low shot (61) and Sunderland hit the bar soon after but an O'Donnell cross was turned in (og, 89) then Lawless hit the post (90).
Tue-06-Aug-2013 [h] (1-0) W2-1 Ayr United (League Cup 1st Round)
– 6 changes, 60% of possession, less than impressive. O'Donnell crashed a shot into the top corner (12) but Thistle lacked a goal threat. Piccolo hit the bar with a header. A Balatoni header (82) should have settled it but Ayr scored (89) then hit the post. Extra time would have been interesting. Perhaps not!
Sat-06-Aug-2011 [h] (0-0) L0-1 Dundee (SFL First Division - game 1)
– Taylor-Sinclair went close early on with a 30-yard free-kick and Rowson headed over 5 minutes from half-time. Both teams had chances in the second half - Thistle more so - but 0-0 looked increasingly likely until a Dundee forward threw himself down in the box and a controversial penalty (90) sealed the win.
Sat-06-Aug-2005 [h] (0-0) D0-0 Stirling Albion (SFL Second Division - game 1)
– Albion started the better and Arthur had to save a penalty to keep the scores level. Thistle improved and went close but the visitors' defence was sound. In the second half Santala hit the bar. Both teams pressed for a winner but none came. Little to enthuse over and a disappointing stalemate.
Sun-06-Aug-1989 [a] (0-0) W3-1 Lossiemouth (Friendly)
– The first half was even and there were few chances. Thistle's best was when Gallagher hit the post, the ball rolled along the line but Smith's effort was blocked. An OG by Dinnie put Thistle behind but Gallagher scored from close in, Smith ran 50 yards to score then Peebles headed in late on.
Sat-06-Aug-1988 [a] (0-0) W2-0 Petershill / Glasgow Perthshire XI (John Connelly Benefit)
– A crude tackle on Law (1) set the scene for this fund raiser for the late John Connelly's family. Dinnie and McGuire went close but Petershill were stubborn in defence. Perthshire came on in the second half and after the post denied them, Gallagher rounded the keeper for 1-0. Campbell's low shot made it 2-0.
Sat-06-Aug-1988 [a] (0-0) W2-0 Ballymena United (Friendly)
– A poorer performance against a poorer team. Ballymena had the early pressure but there were few chances created by either team. A header by McGhie from an Elliot cross gave Thistle the lead in the second half then a defender scored an OG under pressure from Mitchell in the last 10 mins.
Sat-06-Aug-1983 [h] (1-0) W2-1 Swansea City (Friendly)
– Another fine game by Johnston who took 2 of only 3 chances that came his way. O'Hara was close to opening the scoring early on before Johnston scored from close in after the keeper had dropped a corner (12). Swansea equalised from an acute angle (62) but Johnston finished off a fine display with a late winner.
Wed-06-Aug-1980 [h] (0-2) W3-2 Rangers (Anglo-Scottish Cup Preliminary Round, 2nd leg) agg: L4-5
– AGG: 4-5. Played in torrential rain, Rangers led 2-0 at half-time. They were reduced to 10 men when Jackson was red carded for umpteen fouls on McLeod. Gibson and Higgins levelled the scores then O'Hara put Thistle within a goal of extra time but the ref blew for time on exactly 90 mins. An honourable defeat.
Sat-06-Aug-1977 [a] (1-1) W4-1 Ross County (Friendly)
– County put up a creditable performance and took the lead with a fine run and shot (18) but Hansen finished off a Somner pass for 1-1 (19). The 2nd half was more in Thistle's favour and an og (48) put them ahead. Somner scored from the spot (53) before Houston scored the best goal after a mazy run (66). Thistle went off to a sporting ovation.
Mon-06-Aug-1973 [a] (2-0) W2-1 Stenhousemuir (Friendly)
– For the first 30 minutes it was all Stenhousemuir. Two fine last-ditch tackles by Clark saved the day. Thistle finally got into the game and Rae shot home (30) followed by Munro (32) with a fine solo run and finish. Stenhousemuir's goal came after half-time from the pen spot.
Sat-06-Aug-1892 [h] (1-2) W5-2 Celtic (Friendly)
– First ever win against Celtic. Harvey put Thistle ahead (hint of an og) but Celtic player involved made amends for 1-1 and Celtic (not exactly at full strength) were 2-1 ahead at half-time. Thistle had the best of things after that and 4 goals (playing against the wind) by Ingram, Murray, Bruce and Paul turned it round for a 5-2 win.
