Sat-29-Jul-2023 [h] (0-0) W2-1 The Spartans (League Cup Group B - game 4)
– The Second Division newcomers hit the bar then Milne's tackle blocked the rebounded shot. Thistle created little against robust defending in depth until Lyon shot home via a post (52). Poor central defending saw the now more adventurous Spartans equalise (81) but a pen (handball/red card, 88) was converted by Graham. Section won - but a struggle.
Sat-29-Jul-2017 [h] (0-0) W1-0 Stranraer (League Cup Group H - game 4)
– Despite the bulk of possession and chances, the Stranraer keeper was seldom tested, his main claim to fame being his unpunished, blatant time-wasting. Thistle lacked flair to break down massed defensive ranks and their shooting was wayward apart from a low shot by Elliott from the edge of the box (87).
Wed-29-Jul-2009 [a] (0-0) W3-2 Kilmarnock (Friendly)
– Thistle's best chance was when Erskine hit the side net then Kilmarnock hit the post. Tuffey saved a penalty (47) but had to admit defeat (50 and 51). Donnelly headed in a Corcoran cross (54). The game hit a lull until Doolan tapped in a rebound (84) then a fine shot by Donnelly (89) won it.
Sat-29-Jul-2006 [h] (1-0) W1-0 Accrington Stanley (Friendly)
– McCulloch went close from 20 yards then Arthur tipped over a 30-yarder. A trademark 20-yard free-kick just on half-time by McCulloch made it 1-0. Arthur was almost lobbed from 60 yards late on. McCulloch almost scored again then Arthur had a magnificent double save (75) to keep a clean sheet.
Sat-29-Jul-2000 [h] (0-0) L0-1 Chesterfield (Friendly)
– 1,532 saw the 1st goal conceded in 4 matches after 8 minutes due to some slack marking when a cross was headed back into the middle from the far post. [Complete report not found.]
Tue-29-Jul-1997 [h] (0-2) L0-3 Hull City (Friendly)
– A wet night, a poor performance - although 2 of Hull's goals looked suspiciously off-side. Thistle improved in the second half but although they created a few chances (the best from Conner) they couldn't score. Hull scored their 3rd with a header at the death to complete a miserable night.
Thu-29-Jul-1993 [a] (1-0) W1-0 Cliftonville (Friendly)
– Britton pounced on a magnificent long clearance and his ferocious shot proved to be the only goal (36). Smith missed a sitter as Thistle largely dominated the first half. The locals had a spirited second half and made more chances but they lacked a finish. Had they had one, a draw might have been a fairer result.
Mon-29-Jul-1991 [a] (0-0) W1-0 Ross County (Friendly)
– It was a much harder game 2 days later against the Highland League champions. The home side were well organised and although Thistle had lots of possession and were slick in midfield it took a Duffy pen inside the last 10 minutes when Shaw was pulled down in the box to separate the teams.
Sat-29-Jul-1989 [h] (1-0) W2-1 Colchester United (Friendly)
– “Slick Chic” (ET). Charnley was involved in everything and combined with Flood to set up Gallagher for the opener (24). McCoy was unlucky with a overhead kick then Colchester hit the post just on half-time. They levelled (55) after Thistle failed to clear their lines but Peebles cashed in on a Charnley chip (66).
Sat-29-Jul-1978 [a] (1-0) W2-1 Ross County (Friendly)
– “O'Hara saves the Thistle blushes” (GH). Despite his goal (1), Highland League County were a hot handful and deservedly equalised through ex-JAG Kelly from 25 yards (55). The ball was scrambled off the line twice as Thistle struggled but as County tired O'Hara scored again from close in (87).
Mon-29-Jul-1968 [a] (1-0) L1-4 Blackpool (Friendly)
– “Jags' night of misery“ (ET). A McLindon goal gave Thistle the lead but a hat-trick from Skirton and one from McPhee set up an easy win. Niven dislocated his elbow and never played for the 1st team again. A sad end to a fine career. McKinnon was also injured late on. Ritchie and Roxburgh substituted.
