Sun-27-Jul-2014 [a] (1-1) W3-1 Glentoran (Friendly)
– Glens started the better and Gallacher had a brave save (9). A defensive muddle led to Doolan slotting home (34) but a pen for handball made it 1-1 before 2 minutes before half-time. A wild tackle on Fraser saw tempers boil over but a 25-yarder from Fraser (81) and a cheeky pen by Higginbotham (86) won it.
Sat-27-Jul-2013 [h] (0-0) D0-0 Athlitiki Enosi Lemesou (Friendly)
– An above average friendly with good spells of football from both teams and some meaty challenges. Thistle were denied a penalty in the first half then Limassol had a goal disallowed. Thistle came close from several set pieces but there were few chances from open play. A good pre-season test.
Thu-27-Jul-2006 [h] (0-0) D0-0 Greenock Morton (Friendly)
– Morton had the early chances but wasted them - one of them blasted wide from 6 yards. After half-time Donnelly's strike hit the bar and Roberts headed straight at the keeper only for Morton to blast over another good chance. Little wonder it finished goalless.
Sat-27-Jul-2002 [h] (0-1) L1-2 Birmingham City (Friendly)
– “A tepid affair” (SOS). Thistle looked to have taken the lead (18) but McLean's header was disallowed for an earlier infringement. Birmingham took the lead (27) when Milne tripped an opponent and they scored from the spot off a post. It was 2-0 (48) before sub Walker scored with a fine drive from 15 yards (75).
Mon-27-Jul-1998 [h] (1-0) D1-1 Walsall (Friendly)
– Thistle started brightly and scored through a Morgan pen (37). Walsall had a man red-carded for serious lunge on Lauchlan who limped off (72). 3 others were booked (at least one should have been a red). They scored when a cross was touched in (92) yet Arthur hadn't had a save to make. Some friendly!
Sat-27-Jul-1996 [a] (0-0) L0-1 Glenavon (Friendly)
– Even this early in the season selection was restricted by illness and injury. Glenavon proved to be tough proposition. After being on top for a long spell, Thistle fell out of the game and the chances dried up. Glenavon scored with a header (55) then Thistle had a few chances but it was a fair result.
Tue-27-Jul-1993 [a] (2-1) W2-1 Derry City (Friendly)
– “A highly entertaining match” (II). A volley put Derry ahead (19) but the lead lasted only 4 minutes when Cameron equalised. He scored what proved to be the winner (36). Derry provided tough opposition and were probably unlucky not to get the draw.
Sat-27-Jul-1991 [a] (2-0) W4-0 Inverness Select (Friendly)
– The select side defended stoutly for a while but when a Law shot was blocked McGlashan did the business (37). He toe-poked in the 2nd just before half-time. A powerful header by McWalter (on his debut) from a Shaw cross made it 3-0 and he scored again when set up by English, beating the keeper to a loose ball.
Wed-27-Jul-1983 [a] (2-0) W4-0 Linlithgow Rose (Friendly)
– The game was even until McDonald turned and fired in a fine shot (27). O'Hara hit the bar then Jardine's beautifully flighted free-kick just on half-time made it 2-0. After the traditional host of substitutions, Johnston got the 3rd from a Doyle (G) cross and scored again with a shot the keeper should have saved.
Mon-27-Jul-1981 [a] (1-1) W4-2 Brora Rangers (Friendly)
– Gibson headed in a McDonald cross (21) but a suspiciously off-side goal made it 1-1 (43). Park cut in and scored with a left foot drive (55) but Brora fought on and a tremendous drive (70) beat Rough all ends up before Watson's deflected shot off a post (82). Gibson scored from close in (86).
Sat-27-Jul-1968 [a] (3-2) D3-3 Bury (Friendly)
– A defensive mix-up let Bone in to score on his debut (3) then a fast run by Duncan through the middle made it 2-0 (12). Bury reduced the lead (30) but Cunningham pushed in a Flanagan cross (40) then Bury scored a min later. The second half was even but Bury got a late goal to earn an entertaining draw.
