Sat-26-Jul-2025 [a] (1-0) W3-1 Ross County (League Cup Group B - game 4)
– A spectacular 30-yard lob landed on the bar twice and dropped into Budinaukas' hands. McBeth split the defence and his pass was slotted home by Crawford (44). Chalmers found the top corner with a lovely bending shot from 22 yards (64) and Stanway finished off a pass by Watt just inside the "D" (84). Slack marking led to a header (88) but it was Thistle's day by some margin.
Tue-26-Jul-2016 [a] (2-0) W4-1 Stenhousemuir (League Cup Group E - game 3)
– Thistle dominated and should have been even more comfortable than Pogba's diving header (20) and a soft pen by Welsh (22). Foot firmly off the gas led to a goal from 18 yards following a poorly cleared corner (73) but Amoo turned in a rebounded Azeez shot (85) then Azeez shot under the keeper (86).
Sat-26-Jul-2008 [h] (2-1) W2-1 Queen's Park (Challenge Cup 1st Round)
– Gray opened the scoring (9) with a shot from the edge of the box then a strong run by Harkins set up Roberts for number 2 (10). Queens scored when a free-kick rebounded off a post (17). Although Thistle continued to attack in the second half (and Queens went down to 10 men) it was an anti-climax.
Thu-26-Jul-2007 [a] (2-0) W2-0 Albion Rovers (Friendly)
– 2 goals by Buchanan in the first 3 minutes settled things. He was a constant threat and he could easily have had 4. He scored from a poorly cleared Strachan free-kick then he charged down a clearance to score from an acute angle. But for the Rovers keeper the score would have been more convincing.
Mon-26-Jul-2004 [h] (0-0) L0-1 Leicester City (Friendly)
– Thistle slowly took control but couldn't find their shooting boots. Leicester upped the pace on the hour and slack defending allowed an unmarked header to put them ahead. Gemmell and Howie went close then Leicester almost scored a 2nd on the break before a final chance of an equaliser was wasted.
Sat-26-Jul-2003 [h] (1-1) W3-1 Deveronvale (Friendly)
– “Collins raps shot-shy Jags” (SM). A poor pass-back and Deveronvale nipped in to take the lead (4). Anis made up for his error and scored (7) and the game settled down. Chances were missed before goals by Grady (a header from a corner, 51) and Thomson (a header, 80) but it should have been more.
Wed-26-Jul-2000 [h] (0-0) D0-0 Peterborough United (Friendly)
– 1,207 fans saw a goalless draw that was entertaining and not without goalmouth incident. Both goals had narrow escapes, Thistle's more so. McWilliams went close then a McLean header was kicked off the line (35). Peterborough hit the bar with a header (50). Lyle shot wide with just the keeper to beat (84).
Sat-26-Jul-1997 [a] (1-0) W4-0 Gala Fairydean (Friendly)
– The game was spoiled when Evans was sent off for a kick at a Gala defender (15). It took some time for the trialists and fringe players to find any rhythm against poor but physical opposition. Martin put Thistle ahead at half-time then Lyons, Stirling and Conner (looking for a contract) made it look more impressive.
Sat-26-Jul-1980 [a] (1-1) W5-1 Forres Mechanics (Friendly)
– A good start could have seen Mechanics 2-up before Deans prodded home a Park pass from 10 yards (8). Rough looked none too clever at the equaliser (32). It was even play then Lapsley scraped a shot off the line before half-time. An og put Thistle well ahead (51) and 3 goals in a 5 minutes burst (Gibson, Higgins and Deans) finished the scoring.
Wed-26-Jul-1972 [a] (0-0) W3-1 Brynäs (Friendly)
– The busy pre-season continues with this 3-1 friendly win in Gävle, Sweden, thanks to goals from Denis McQuade (2) and Alex Rae (his last for the club).
