Sun-25-Jul-2021 [a] (0-1) L0-2 St Mirren (League Cup Group H - game 4)
– A bright start with good crosses and chances proved fruitless then a pen for a foul by Foster put Saints ahead (25). Thistle tried to get forward but gradually wilted in the Paisley heat against a stronger, more experienced squad that didn't capitalise on the lion's share of chances and only scored again on 90+5 minutes from close in.
Tue-25-Jul-2017 [a] (2-0) W2-1 Airdrieonians (League Cup Group H - game 3)
– Erskine set up Doolan (10) then Erskine's header hit the post. Cerny had several saves and had the bar to thank as Airdrie pressed. Spittal fired home a parried save (40) to give Thistle a comfortable lead. An unmarked header found the net (55) and the second half was a hard slog, neither team able score again.
Sat-25-Jul-2015 [h] (0-1) D1-1 Rotherham United (Friendly)
– Rotherham took the lead with a header (34) when Cerny came off his line and failed to gather and they had several good chances before half-time. A good save denied Stevenson a leveller but Welsh drove on and scored from 35 yards 3 minutes later (54). After that, chances at both ends weren't converted.
Sat-25-Jul-2009 [a] (0-0) W1-0 Airdrie United (Challenge Cup 1st Round)
– Buchanan went close twice but Thistle, who had all the play but never looked that dangerous, went in goalless. In the second half Buchanan found the corner of the net with a Rowson pass (51). Airdrie perked up towards the end playing 2-4-4 and almost equalised but Thistle saw out a nervy last ten mins.
Tue-25-Jul-2006 [a] (2-0) W2-1 St Mirren (Friendly)
– A pleasing performance away to Premier Division St Mirren. Donnelly opened the scoring with a well placed shot (25). Fine play by Donnelly then set up Brady for the 2nd (38). St Mirren improved in the second half and reduced the deficit from 18 yards (48) then Arthur had some fine saves to prevent an equaliser.
Wed-25-Jul-2001 [h] (0-0) D1-1 Blackpool (Friendly)
– 1,256 saw a “typically lethargic pre-season friendly” (DR). Gorham was seldom troubled but in contrast Arthur had a fine double save from a late pen. Blackpool dominated the first half but didn't score until their fine curling shot in the top corner (79) but McLean crashed in a leveller on the angle 5 minutes later.
Sat-25-Jul-1998 [h] (0-1) L0-3 Le Havre (Friendly)
– Le Havre out-played, out-passed and out-thought Thistle who didn't play that badly but were always second best. Arthur had already saved well several times before a defensive error led to a lob for 1-0 (21). Few shots on target came Thistle's way. They were caught on the break (65) before a fine 3rd (82).
Thu-25-Jul-1996 [a] (0-0) W3-0 Ards (Friendly)
– Life out of the top flight began with a rusty, disjointed performance that improved in the second half with a tap-in by Henderson and 2 from Smith (first to react when his shot was blocked then again from a cut-back (88). Turner almost scored from 45 yards but his shot went just wide.
Sat-25-Jul-1992 [h] (0-0) D0-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers (Friendly)
– “The Jags don't look ready for the rigours of the big time” (SM). Wolves were streets ahead until Thistle's sharper fitness showed after half-time. McGlashan's shot (58) was well saved, Kinnaird blazed over from close in and Nelson had a couple of fine saves but the game never rose above mediocre.
Sat-25-Jul-1987 [n] (0-0) D0-0 East Stirlingshire (Friendly)
– It’s a low-key start to the season unusually set in the playing fields of the British Aluminium Social Club in Falkirk.
Sat-25-Jul-1981 [a] (3-0) W6-0 Ross County (Friendly)
– Gibson's shot rolled under the keeper (13) and he added to it following a corner (41) before Jardine (44) put Thistle well ahead. Gibson headed his debut hat-trick from a corner (60) then Rough had his first save. O'Hara hit the post then a fine solo effort by Clark (76) and his 2nd from close in (85) made it an easy win.
