Bio Extra

β€œMaroon” in the Weekly News (20 August 1921) spoke of John's senior debut against Clydebank: β€œCrawford, the Kingseat man, at outside left, pleased the critics, up till a point. That point stopped at half-time, for the Fifer was fairly out of it after that. Indeed, he played like a novice in the second half. Still, he has everything to commend him - height, weight and speed - and I should like to see him again ere passing a definite opinion. At the moment I certainly would prefer Salisbury or Bowie.”

The left winger featured in the first three league games of the season, but was soon consigned to the reserves until April when he got two further league appearances under his belt, a 3-1 win away to Hearts and a 1-1 draw at home to Airdrie. There were some heavy cuts made to the wage bill at the end of the season, and John was one who was freed in May 1922. He doesn't seem to have moved on to any other senior club and, indeed, there's no sign of him at a lower level either, so perhaps he gave up the game at that point, it's difficult to tell.
