Season 1969/70 tested the patience of many Thistle fans as they went from bad to worse. Slipping down the table towards relegation was bad enough but a perceived reluctance to get stuck in riled some fans. On 8/11/1969 the "Evening Times" carried a caustic letter from a reader that Thistle should be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize on the basis that "truly they are men with no thought of fight".
