On 22/12/1917 Sheffield's "Star Green 'Un" reported that Thistle (with just 11 goals conceded in 17 league matches) had the best defensive record in British football. Liverpool and Sheffield United had also conceded 11 goals but had played a game fewer. Forever tempting fate Thistle shipped 7 goals in their next 2 games (2 from Hibs and 5 from Third Lanark) to rather spoil their 15 minutes of fame.
