You Couldn't Make It Up!

by Jack Little

A 1-1 draw against Thistle on 21/3/1908 was enough to put Falkirk on top of the First Division. Heady days indeed and a cause for celebration. The "Falkirk Herald" reported on 25/3 that one Robert Fraser admitted being drunk and incapable in Falkirk town centre on the night of the match. He told the court he had been at the match in Falkirk and had subsequently met a friend from Partick who had also been at the match and that they had gone drinking. The Fiscal recommended a stiffer punishment for lying to the court because the game was played at Partick. The Baillie agreed and the penalty was doubled to 15/- or 10 days in prison.
