Sod's law. The "Dundee Courier" commented on 10/12/1896 that Thistle had benefited from £400 in transfer fees (around £54k today) since the beginning of the season and that they were "going to be one of the teams of the future. The club is bowling along under a sunny financial wind but this is due in a way to the excellent fashion in which the senior eleven are playing. They have an unbeaten record and in ordinary [friendly] fixtures they have a wonderfully fine sheet of results". They promptly lost their unbeaten record in next league match to Leith Athletic - but it was their only league defeat that season.
