Bio Extra

There's not much to go on with this unknown player, and we can't even be sure it's the same Wilson for both low-key appearances. Thistle travelled to Govan on the Monday evening of 27th August 1906 in a fundraiser for Benburb. At left-half, Wilson (Linthouse) was one of three juniors being tried on the night. 18-year-old Lee Massey (Petershill) debuted in goal - and subsequently signed to terms. Lawson (Renfrew Victoria) played at left back. Thistle came back from 2 down to win 3-2, but Benburb would've had an last-minute equaliser had the ref not cruelly called for time!

We don't have any firm evidence to link Wilson (Fernlea) as the same guy making a second appearance a few months later, but it doesn't seem entirely unreasonable as a curator's punt. It was a similar type of situation, whereby Thistle gave a trial to a number of juniors, this time the striking 'Partick Boilermakers' being the beneficiaries as Thistle drew 2-2 with Celtic on the evening of Thursday 15th August 1906. Supporting the guesswork that Wilson might have been invited back for a second trial is the fact that he appeared in a similar position, albeit right half as opposed to left.
