William John McStay was born on Sunday, 26th November, 1961, in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire.

The defender temporarily transferred to Sandy Clark's Thistle on Tuesday, 9th January, 1990, from his parent club, Notts County.

Aged 28, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 13th January, 1990, in a 1-0 defeat at home to St Johnstone in the SFL First Division.

There were no goals for Willie during his spell with Thistle.

He played his last game for the club on Wednesday, 28th February, 1990, in a 1-0 defeat away to Alloa Athletic in the SFL First Division, having appeared as a Jag on 5 occasions.

Willie's club-list included Celtic, Huddersfield Town, Notts County, Hartlepool United, Partick Thistle, Kilmarnock and Sligo Rovers.

Bio Extra

Signed by Sandy Clark on a loan transfer from Notts County (after a spell with Celtic) during his brief tenure as manager during the 89/90 season. Although he showed occasional signs of good play at left back he did not do himself justice and returned to England. McStay's last game for Thistle at Alloa also marked Clark's last as Thistle manager.
