William McDonald was probably born in Scotland, although his place and date of birth remain unknown to us. *

The midfielder joined Thistle in 1884.

He made his first known appearance on Wednesday, 13th June, 1884, in a 5-4 defeat at home to Govan Select in a benefit match.

William scored his first known goal for Thistle on Saturday, 7th September, 1889, in a 3-2 defeat away to 3rd L.R.V. in the Scottish Cup.

He scored the last of his 9 known goals on Saturday, 24th March, 1900, in a 5-3 win at home to Abercorn in the SFL Second Division.

He played his last known game for the club on Tuesday, 20th August, 1901, in a 2-0 defeat at home to Queen's Park in a Benefit match, having clocked up at least 124 appearances for the Thistle.

His club-list included Partick Thistle and Bedminster.
