 Thomas Charles Bryce was born on Wednesday, 27th January, 1960, in Johnstone, Renfrewshire. The 5' 8 (11st 10lbs) forward signed for Tommy Bryce's Thistle on Thursday, 4th June, 1998, having most recently been with Queen of the South. Aged 38, he made his debut appearance on Monday, 20th July, 1998, in a 2-1 friendly win away to Stenhousemuir. Tommy scored his first goal for Thistle on Saturday, 12th September, 1998, in a 1-0 win at home to Stirling Albion in the SFL Second Division. He scored the last of his 3 goals on Sunday, 11th October, 1998, in a 2-0 win at home to Forfar Athletic in the SFL Second Division. He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 13th March, 1999, in a 1-0 defeat at home to Clyde in the SFL Second Division, having appeared as a Jag on 24 occasions. Tommy's club-list included Irvine Meadow XI, Kilmarnock, Ferguslie United, Stranraer, Queen of the South, Clydebank, Ayr United, Partick Thistle, Arbroath, Glenafton Athletic, Kilbirnie Ladeside and Troon. |
 Was a major surprise as the man chosen to succeed John McVeigh. Tommy had plenty of experience of football in the lower divisions and it was thought that that experience plus his talent on the field would be a winning combination. Initially things looked to be going well as Thistle topped the division but a run of 7 consecutive defeats left the team and the manager struggling. The end came on March 8th, ironically just after Thistle had defeated Alloa. Tommy briefly remained as a player before rejoining Queen of the South. He spent another season playing at Abroath before retiring from the senior game at the age of 40. Tommy continued to play and manage in the juniors into the 2000s. |
