 Thomas Hume Harvey was born on Saturday, 15th May, 1880, in Irvine, North Ayrshire. The midfielder signed for Thistle in August, 1900, having most recently been with Irvine Meadow XI. Aged 20, he made his debut appearance on Wednesday, 15th August, 1900, in a 3-3 draw away to Celtic in the SFL First Division. Tom scored his first goal for Thistle on Saturday, 1st March, 1902, in a 4-1 win at home to Kilmarnock in the Western League. He scored the last of his 5 goals on Tuesday, 3rd January, 1905, in a 4-1 defeat at home to Rangers in the SFL First Division. He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 16th March, 1907, in a 1-0 defeat at home to Port Glasgow Athletic in the SFL First Division, having clocked up an impressive 237 appearances as a Jag. His club-list included Irvine Meadow XI and Partick Thistle. Tom died on Monday, 16th July, 1945, in Stevenston, North Ayrshire, aged 65. |
 Son of Hugh and Elizabeth Harvey (née McQueen). Tom had played with Irvine Meadow since 15, working his way from the juveniles to the first team, gaining a few cup medals along the way. A right sided player, he started out at half-back, and ended up as full-back during his 8 seasons with Thistle. He was well thought of, and around 5,000 turned out for his benefit match in January 1907, as Thistle defeated Queen's Park by 4 to nil at Meadowside. £50 was raised for the player. The money would come in handy; just two months later the 26-year-old sustained a career-ending injury in a typically bruising affair with Port Glasgow. He married Janet Boyle Anderson and had 5 children. A slater by trade, he came to a tragic end when he fell from the roof at the Greenhead Water Works at Stevenston, causing fatal damage to the brain. |
