| Thomas McCulloch |
 Thomas McCulloch was born on Wednesday, 8th August, 1866, in Port Glasgow, Renfrewshire. The defender probably joined Thistle in 1889 or 1890, having most recently been with Glasgow United. Aged 23, he made his first known appearance on Saturday, 15th February, 1890, in a 4-1 friendly win away to St Mirren. There were no known goals for Thomas during his time with Thistle. He played his last known game for the club on Saturday, 22nd September, 1894, in a 3-0 defeat away to Annbank in the Scottish Cup, having appeared for the Thistle on at least 33 occasions. His club-list included Glasgow United, Partick Thistle, Rangers, West Bromwich Albion and Linthouse. Thomas died on Sunday, 10th August, 1919, in Glasgow, aged 53. |
 As a 23/24 year-old, this full-back had a great calendar year with Thistle in 1890 before having his head turned by Rangers who were playing in the first-ever Scottish Football League. He wasn't there long before he was "tapped up" by agents for the West Bromwich Albion, where he could freely earn decent money as a professional. He made his Football League debut against Preston North End in February 1891 and went on to have a magnificent season 1891-92, playing in every round of the FA Cup, going all the way as the Baggies defeated local rivals Aston Villa 3-0 in the Final in front of 32,810 at The Kennington Oval. Playing alongside him that day was his former teammate at Inchview, Roddy McLeod. When the finances tightened at West Brom, Thomas headed back to Scotland, initially signing for Linthouse before switching allegiance to Partick Thistle just over a week later. He was now able to earn money as a footballing professional in Scotland, but his second spell at Thistle wasn't nearly as succesful as his first. In fact, he lasted just several weeks, a spell which ended horribly in late September as the Jags were turfed out of the Scottish Cup at Annbank, losing by 3 goals to nil. To add insult to injury, the local thugs stoned the Thistle charabanc out of town! |
