Stephen Docherty was born on Wednesday, 18th February, 1976, in Glasgow. The 5' 8 (10st 10lbs) midfielder signed for John Lambie's Thistle in 1993, having most recently been with Pollok. Aged 17, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 15th May, 1993, in a 1-0 win away to Hibernian in the SFL Premier Division. Stephen scored his first goal for Thistle on Saturday, 16th September, 1995, in a 2-0 win at home to Heart of Midlothian in the SFL Premier Division. He scored the last of his 6 goals on Saturday, 16th October, 1999, in a 2-2 draw at home to Alloa Athletic in the SFL Second Division. He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 28th April, 2001, in a 4-3 win away to Stranraer in the SFL Second Division, having appeared as a Jag on 99 occasions. Stephen's club-list included Pollok, Partick Thistle, Clydebank, Airdrieonians and Bathgate Thistle. |
When Stephen first broke into the Thistle first team he was the first player to come through the youth ranks into the side for a number of years. Scored a number of goals in Thistle's last Premier League campaign, including a spectacular effort against Celtic. Spent the following season mostly as a substitute before cash problems at the club led to a free transfer. Joined Clydebank for a couple of seasons before returning to Firhill for the start of the 99/00 season, but was plagued by injury and released at the end of the season and subsequently he joined Airdrie. |
