Bio Extra

Ramsay had started out in the Rangers youth system before leaving to forge his own path in the game. After a year with John Lambie's Thistle, the 19-year-old midfielder finally made the first-team bench, being selected for the squad which made the memorable trip to play Metz in the Intertoto Cup in July 1995. Surprisingly, Lambie left for Falkirk soon afterwards and Ramsay never got a look-in under new manager, Murdo MacLeod. He was freed from Firhill at the end of 1995-96 and made a bold move to Iceland where he found success in the national league, also experiencing Faroese football. As the 1990s progressed he was back and forth to Scotland, all the while plotting a more permanent stay in Iceland which he did in 1999. He spent some of his best seasons at Keflavik where he became a fans favourite. In August 2005, Ramsey helped KeflavĂk win its first Icelandic Cup in 12 years. In the background, however, lay an unsavoury incident which would have a big impact on his life. In November 2004, Ramsay killed a man in an Icelandic nightclub. In October 2005, the Glasgow Herald carried the story which was headline news in Iceland:

A SCOTS footballer has been jailed after killing a pilot with one punch in an Icelandic nightclub. Scott Ramsay, a 29-year-old former Partick Thistle midfielder, said jealousy and "too much drink" had led to the clash with Flemming Tolstrup. Ramsey struck Mr. Tolstrup, 33, a Danish pilot, on the head after he saw him flirting with his girlfriend Birgitta Karadottir. After a two-week trial, Ramsey received an 18-month sentence for the assault that led to Mr. Tolstrup's death, but the judge at Reykjavik District Court suspended 15 months of the sentence and ordered Ramsay to pay his victim's family GBP18,000 in compensation.

The father-of-two, who plays for Keflavik FC, was also shown leniency because he had no previous convictions, led a moderate lifestyle and was employed. The court was told that Ramsay never intended to kill Mr. Tolstrup and the consequences of his punch were much more serious than foreseeable. The blow landed on the man's neck and caused bleeding that led to his death. Ramsay told the court he was on his first night-out with his girlfriend since the birth of their daughter, seven months earlier.

Ramsay played into his 40s, retiring from the game after a spell with StĂĄl-Ășlfur in the late 2010s.
