Bio Extra

This young centre half signed for Thistle in September 1966 and spent two seasons with the club, confined to the reserves for the majority of the time. This must have been somewhat anticlimactic for him as, within weeks of signing, the 18-year-old got his first start in a top-flight game at home to Clyde, watched by almost 4,000. A header in 30 seconds settled the game. Thistle had 3 debutants - Bobby Mitchell, Drew Clarke and Sandy Caddell - but their neat midfield work came to nothing, much like their careers at Firhill. Clyde were much more effective, hit the post and had a goal wrongly disallowed late on. Jackie Campbell was Thistle's first-ever sub, replacing Joe Hogan (injured, 53). Sandy became a teacher by profession, specialising in Geography.
