![]() Samuel Caldow Campbell was born on Saturday, 10th April, 1920, in Blair Atholl, Perthshire. The 5' 8 (11st 0lbs) forward signed for Donald Turner's Thistle on Wednesday, 14th November, 1945, having most recently been with Wishaw. Aged 25, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 24th November, 1945, in a 5-1 win at home to Hamilton Academical in the Southern League. Sam scored his first goal for Thistle on Tuesday, 1st January, 1946, in a 2-1 win at home to Clyde in the Southern League. He scored his second and final goal for the club on Thursday, 2nd January, 1947, in a 3-1 win at home to Morton in the SFL First Division. He played his last game for Thistle on Saturday, 11th January, 1947, in a 4-0 defeat away to Rangers in the SFL First Division, having appeared as a Jag on 17 occasions. His club-list included Queen of the South, Wishaw, Partick Thistle, East Stirlingshire and Edinburgh City. Sam died in 1992, in Tranent, East Lothian, aged 72. *

![]() During the war Sam joined the RAF, and a press report in the Dundee Evening Telegraph records that he played in a charity match at East End Park between RAF and Royal Navy select sides in January 1946. The player had signed for Thistle in late 1945. A forward, he played for the Jags on 17 occasions, and scored 2 goals in top-flight matches against Clyde and Morton.
