 Ross (forename unknown) was probably born in Scotland, although his place and date of birth remain unknown to us. * The defender appeared for Thistle in May, 1888. He made his only known appearance on Saturday, 5th May, 1888, in a 6-2 friendly defeat away to St Bernard's. There were no goals for Ross in his only known game for Thistle. His known club-list included only Partick Thistle. We don't know where or when Ross died. *

 This unknown left back was probably a guest or a trialist as his name hasn't appeared in any of our reserve line-ups of the day. In his only known game (a rare excursion to Edinburgh in May 1888) he played alongside some Thistle greats including John McCorkindale (in goals), Bob Robertson (at centre half) and legendary forwards Willie Paul and Andrew Johnston. However, the 2-6 loss will have done little for his prospects. “To describe the first half of the game would be neither interesting nor constructive” said the Herald. St Bernard's scored first and poor finishing denied Thistle an equaliser until Jerry Suter scored. With the wind in the second half St Bernard's scored 5 before the aforementioned Johnston scored late on, but it made little difference. |
