Bio Extra

This left winger played at Neilston Waverley as a youth, before stepping up with the Queen's Park coaching school in the early 60s. By May 1962, he signed terms with their first team and was a near ever-present with the Spiders in season 1962-63, making 41 first class appearances. He was capped twice by Scotland Amateurs in February 1964, both games in the British Championship within three weeks of each other, the first of which was a 2-2 Hampden draw with Northern Ireland in front of 1,202. Playing alongside Andy Roxburgh (by then at East Stirlingshire) he won his second cap on (leap day) 29th February, the Scots defeating their Welsh counterparts by one goal to nil at Love Street. Later that same year, Robin made the switch to Willie Thornton's Thistle, a big step up indeed. Jags had played in Europe just the season before.

He spent two full seasons at Thistle and, halfway through, would be reacquainted with his old QP and Scotland teammate, Andy Roxburgh. A regular start in Thistle's first team was always going to be a big ask for Robin, but he did well to make 16 appearances in amongst such competing luminaries as Tommy Ewing, Davie McParland, Brian Gallagher and Arthur Duncan. Brilliantly, Robin featured in 3 League matches against Rangers (twice) and Celtic, and remained unbeaten, drawing all of them. In fact, his last game for the club (21st March 1966) was a 2-2 draw at home to the latter and Robin, playing at centre-forward for the one and only time in the first team, signed off with a goal to really earn the point and keep his proud record intact. Despite this, he was freed 5 weeks later!
