Historian's note: We can't help but wonder if this Robertson [ii] was, in reality, an early guest / trial appearance for Hope Robertson. Hope was several years at Westburn by this point, and was just about to start a short stint at Queen's Park, so he could well have been 'in the market' for a move.

Historian's note: George C. Robertson reportedly played 3 games for Thistle in his pre-Motherwell days, although his only confirmed date was an abandoned Glasgow League fixture against Clyde on 27th March, 1906. Might these two be one and the same, kept in mind by the directors for a second trial nearly 2 years later? We may never know, but an illuminating snippet in the SR (25-Feb-1910) read: “Robertson was the distinct find of the Firhill trial, and will be selected v. Wales, if not other nations. Curious. Partick Thistle played him in three matches previous to his going to Motherwell [June 1906], but saw nothing of the gem in the old Yoker Athletic lad.” It's probably odds against, but we'll keep our eyes peeled just in case.
