 Paul Thomas McDonald was born on Saturday, 20th April, 1968, in Motherwell, North Lanarkshire. The 5' 6½ (9st 7lbs) forward signed for Tommy Bryce's Thistle on Monday, 14th September, 1998 (after a trial period), having most recently been with Dunfermline Athletic. Aged 30, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 29th August, 1998, in a 2-1 win away to Clyde in the SFL Second Division. Paul scored his first goal for Thistle on Saturday, 17th October, 1998, in a 3-2 defeat away to Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the SFL Second Division. He scored the last of his 3 goals on Saturday, 1st May, 1999, in a 1-0 win at home to Forfar Athletic in the SFL Second Division. That turned out to be his last game for the club, having appeared as a Jag on 34 occasions. Paul's club-list included Hamilton Academical, Southampton, Burnley, Brighton & Hove Albion, Dunfermline Athletic, Partick Thistle and Greenock Morton. |
 Spent most of season 98/99 with Thistle initially playing as a trialist before committing himself to the club until the end of the season. Like most wingers he was often infuriatingly inconsistent but on his day there was no better player in his position in the league. Left Firhill in the summer but not before scoring the vital penalty against Forfar that helped prevent the unthinkable relegation to the Third Division. |
