| Mitchell [i] |
Mitchell (forename unknown) was probably born in Scotland, although his place and date of birth remain unknown to us. * The forward appeared for George Easton's Thistle in January, 1907. He made his only appearance on Saturday, 26th January, 1907, in a 1-0 friendly defeat at home to Dundee. There were no goals for Mitchell in his one-off appearance for Thistle. His known club-list included only Partick Thistle. We don't know where or when Mitchell died. *

![]() This unknown player turned out at inside left in his only game for Thistle, a 1-0 friendly defeat at home to Dundee. We've never even seen his name in the reserves, so perhaps he was a junior on trial. Thistle were all set to meet Dundee in a big Scottish Cup tie at Meadowside on 26 January 1907, but Jack Frost had other ideas. It seems Thistle knew the pitch was unplayable on the Friday and phoned Dundee to tell them. Dundee decided to come anyway (football specials all booked) and a friendly was agreed. Strangely, Dundee were at full strength despite the advance warning about the pitch. The referee doesn't seem to have been involved! Dundee were at full strength but Thistle were a mix of fringe players. 4,500 customers saw two teams not taking things seriously and the players did all they could to avoid injury. Mitchell's left-wing partner for the day was the famous John Campbell who won four successive league titles with Rangers (1898β99, 1899β1900, 1900β01 and 1901β02) and earned four Scottish international caps, netting a double in Scotland's biggest ever win β an 11β0 defeat of Ireland in February 1901. If Mitchell did nothing else, at least he had that! |
