McLean [ii] |
McLean (forename unknown) was probably born in Scotland, although his place and date of birth remain unknown to us. * The forward was a trialist for George Easton's Thistle in May, 1904, whilst a Fairfield Shipyard player. He made his only appearance on Saturday, 7th May, 1904, in a 1-0 friendly defeat away to Albion Rovers. There were no goals for McLean in his one-off appearance for Thistle. His known club-list included Fairfield Shipyard and Partick Thistle. We don't know where or when McLean died. *

This junior played his only game as a trialist in an end of season friendly at Meadow Park, home of Albion Rovers, on Saturday, 7th May, 1904. By 4pm, 1,000 were there to see it. The Daily Record tells us that the McLean in question played with Fairfield Shipyard, who were a junior side from Govan. He played at inside left in what proved to be his only game for the club. Early Thistle pressure only produced a Wilkie free-kick. Rovers had a spell of pressure but both sets of forwards were poor. Thistle edged the match overall on chances but 0-0 looked certain until a deflected cross fell nicely and Rovers scored the only goal (80) despite Thistle's frantic efforts to equalise. |
