The OPTA network credits Lee Ashcroft with the assist for the first which is a bit of a stretch. His header forward was headed further forward by an Edinburgh City before landing in Scott Robinson's path, but we give him the extreme benefit of the doubt that it might still have reached Robinson. Bizarrely, OPTA award an assist to Kyle Turner for the second Thistle goal, despite there being two changes of direction for the ball after his corner. Lee Ashcroft's header was cleared off the line by a City defender before Brian Graham pounced on the rebound to prod it home, so it's clearly "no assist". Thistle's 5th goal gave cause for much debate. An Edinburgh City player's header spun back from the post and was possibly over the goal line, but no-one can be certain that the ball fully crossed before a Thistle boot made contact. Both Daniel O'Reilly and Wasiri Williams raced in to "make sure". The club (and The Thistle Archive) initially gave the goal to Wasiri Williams, as it was his boot and momentum which seemed to be the most forceful and convincing. For what it's worth, the 'network' (BBC, SPFL, Transfermrkt etc) give the goal to Wasiri Williams, whilst the referee report credits Daniel O'Reilly. Having studied the video in super-slow-motion frame-by-frame, we can see that it's Daniel O'Reilly's boot which makes first contact and, as he does so, almost the entirety of the ball is already over the line, as the photo below shows. Whilst it's not 100% conclusive, it seems that 'big Waz' is just a fraction of a second too late in getting the decisive touch before the ball fully crosses the line. We therefore credit Daniel O'Reilly with this goal, as does the club itself, so happy days!

● It's heading for an OG but, thanks to LMC Vlogs for the stills, we can see Daniel O'Reilly just gets there in time to nick it for his first Thistle goal.

TTA report

Thistle gave out of their depth City 6 of the best in 34 2nd half minutes. Robinson latched on to a poor clearance (57), Graham poked home after a corner was cleared off the line (69), Milne's shot from 18 yards made it 3 (75), Diack finished off a Turner run along the by-line (78), O'Reilly stretched out for 5-0 (85) and Turner's free-kick made it 6 (90+1).

TTA man of the match

Is it a bird, is it a plane, no, it's KYLE TURNER here, there and everywhere as a winger, inverted winger, midfield dynamo and ball winner. His two-footed assist for Ricco Diack's goal was world class, and his expertly curved free-kick goal at the end showed first class technique. A real stand out today.

There wasn't much to report from the first half. Thistle dominated possession but City were happy to sit back and defend in depth. Thistle struggled to find space and created very little. It was felt that the tempo of the game would need to increase in the second half, as would Thistle's use of the ball in forward positions - thankfully it did. It had been a frustrating opening 45 minutes, but Thistle ran riot with six second half goals to record an easy win and maintain a 100% Premier Sports Cup record.

We got our first goal on 56. Robinson took advantage of an error and, finding himself clear on goal, he made no mistake as he slid the ball home. Thistle doubled their lead in the 68th minute. Ashcroft's header from Turner's corner was saved, but Graham was there to force the ball over the line. Five minutes later it was 3. A corner was cleared, but Thistle picked the ball up again, Bannigan chipping back towards the City box. Milne picked the ball up at the right edge of the box and his shot beat Beveridge, finding the bottom corner.

Diack was on for just 2 minutes when he found the target for the 4th goal. He found Turner who returned the ball to him, and Diack knocked it home for his first goal of the season. Thistle were coasting now, and two minutes later Crawford crashed a shot off the bar as Thistle pressed for a 5th goal. It came in the 84th minute though and it was one for the dubious goals panel. There was a race between O'Reilly and Wasiri to knock the ball over the line from about a yard out. Waz was certainly claiming it, but O'Reilly might have got their first. We'll give it to Brian Graham! The rout was complete in the 90th minute when Kyle Turner made no mistake with a perfectly placed free kick as Thistle netted a 6th goal.

We caused our own problems in the first half by running forward too early and crowding the box, it was just through eagerness and people desperate to score goals, so at half-time we spoke about staggering those runs, you've got to leave space for the likes of Scott Robinson, then wide players can come in off the side. You don't expect to come out and score six in the second half, but it's that type of game where as soon as you get one, you get two and your tails go up and you get even more, and it was all about players doing the right things at the right times.
