Partick Thistle fended off Greenock Morton with a late Blair Alston winner to consolidate third in the Scottish Championship. The hosts got off to a rapid start as Kerr McInroy fired past Jamie MacDonald inside three minutes. Morton pulled level from the spot as Grant Gillespie stroked home after Kirk Broadfoot was upended in the box. Brian Graham was shown a second yellow moments after being subbed off, but Alston soon fired Thistle's winner. Kris Doolan's side stay five points clear in third, while Morton remain bottom.

Partick Thistle manager Kris Doolan (speaking to Jagzone):

It was really physical, there were tackles flying in, there was decisions for the referee to make all over the pitch. It's difficult then to play well, but I still felt as if we did. For large spells of the game we were the team who looked threatening, we looked after the ball and got some good patterns of play going. Great to see Jack back, linking up with Lawless. I was really pleased the way we managed the game when we went 2-1 up. We had plenty of experience ont he pitch at that point - Alston, Banzo, Aero, Lawless - guys who can really organize and I felt as though we shored things up. Whether you want to get after them or not, we were always going to come under pressure, but we stood up to it and Tomi and Fitzy helped us to break away brilliantly at times.
