A header by Sneddon up for a corner (90+5) rescued a point in a match in which Thistle huffed and puffed but seldom threatened. Cove made the most of poor defending (6) and always looked the more likely. Sneddon saved the day several times with some smart saves before his spectacular contribution at the other end.

JAMIE SNEDDON branded his last-gasp equaliser one of the best moments of his life. The Partick Thistle keeper left Cove Rangers stunned when he netted a 95th-minute HEADER. Sneddon was mobbed by Partick fans as he sparked a pitch invasion and revealed he hadn’t scored since primary school. He said:

I don’t think I’ve had a feeling like that even after making a save. It was mental and one of those surreal moments you will remember forever. It was so surreal because you don’t expect it. I got the signal from our goalie coach Kenny Arthur to just go up. Nobody was picking me up and I went to the back post. I saw the ball coming and I don’t really remember the rest. It was coming through the floodlights and then it was a blur. I haven’t scored since primary school. I played outfield and I had a wand of a left foot! I don’t think I have ever scored with a header. I hated heading the ball. My days outfield finished when I was seven and I don’t think I have scored since then. The boys were saying it was the best header they have ever seen but I don’t know what happened. With the celebrations, I just remember a wee smile on my face and then wheeling away. The next thing I knew I was at the bottom of a pile and I was waiting for somebody to stand on me. I’ll be asking for a goal bonus after that!

Mitch Megginson’s 201st goal for Cove Rangers had put them ahead after six minutes. The impressive Max Johnston raced down the right and whipped over a perfect cross for the striker to power in a finish. Cove sub Fraser Fyvie almost made it 2-0 and they went on to miss even more chances after the break. Gerry McDonagh pounced on a loose Jack McMillan pass to race through but Sneddon made a top save as the striker tried to round him. The Partick keeper was the hero again as he diverted Luis Longstaff’s shot wide. Those chances came back to haunt Jim McIntyre’s side as Thistle piled on the pressure in the closing stages. Cove looked to be holding on but Sneddon then met Stuart Bannigan's corner to plant a perfect header into the corner.

Gutted boss McInyre admits it was “a sickener” to lose a goal so late in that fashion. He said:

The keeper wasn’t unmarked. Someone was with him but got blocked off. He found himself in space and we didn’t deal with it. We need to be better in that moment. It’s a sucker punch and a sickener. We should have been out of sight. It was a lack of ruthlessness and it came back to bite us spectacularly. But it’s 1-1 now because it was the reverse at Firhill when they had a lot of chances. One goal is never enough at this level and you need to take those chances and make it more comfortable for yourself. Thistle gambled late on and they will feel great, but we have to dust ourselves down now.

Thistle manager Ian McCall:

It is fairy-tale stuff for [Sneddon] him and he deserves it. He was terrific today and it was a great header. I can take nothing to do with it because I never told him to go forward. Most people would call me a dinosaur, I hate seeing goalies go up but I didn't hate it after he scored. I'm over 40 years [in football] and I've never seen it, but I'm delighted it happened.
