Darren Brownlie's first goal in 18 months brought Queen of the South a valuable win at Partick Thistle. The centre-back headed past Scott Fox following Faissal El Bakhtaoui's corner. Renewed optimism filled Firhill with Ian McCall stood in the home dug-out and Joe Cardle troubled the visitors. Fox denied Stephen Dobbie from extending Queens' lead and both Sean McGinty and Kenny Miller narrowly missed equalising for the Jags. It's only the Doonhamers' second league win of the season but Allan Johnston's men weathered the storm well in the last 20 minutes as the hosts pushed hard to level matters. Former Thistle captain Abdul Osman came on as s substitute for Queens after signing a short-term deal at Palmerston on Friday.

Partick Thistle manager Ian McCall (speaking to the BBC):

I'm gutted for the 3000 fans who came that were terrific. I think there's a nervousness about the stadium that's been here because of the last couple of years. In the second half there were five or six times we could've scored and we certainly didn't deserve to get beaten.

Queen of the South manager Allan Johnston (speaking to the BBC):

Darren Brownlie launched himself at the great ball in and he's definitely a player that can play at a high level. We quietened the crowd a bit towards the end of the second half. Stephen Dobbie has half chances and he was so unfortunate but that'll turn in time.
