The first half had little to enthuse over. McLean scored from a half saved shot from McGrillen (53). Clydebank were reduced to 10 men (elbow, 55) but comic defending led to the equaliser (63)then a free header made it 2-1 (79). The bar prevented No 3 then Hardie (already booked) was sent off (lunge, straight red, 86).

BRAVE WELSH PROVES THAT HE'S NO QUITTER; NOW FIT-AGAIN BRIAN SETS HIS SIGHTS HIGH. BIG stopper Brian Welsh grabbed the winner for Clydebank then admitted he's on a mission to prove people wrong. The central defender headed home a pinpoint Derek Ferguson cross from Alex Burke's corner to give the Bankies a deserved three points. However, after spending two years on the sidelines with an Achilles injury, the former Dundee United and Hibs star is desperate to show he's got what it takes to go back to the top. Welsh, 31, said: “I was told to chuck playing football but now I'm trying to prove it was the wrong advice. I was out for two years but I've played more than 30 games this year so my fitness is holding up. I played a few times for Stenhousemuir at the end of last season and then I spent the summer playing in the Icelandic league. The football up there is of a similar standard to where I'm playing now. It's a strange place but I just wanted games under my belt. I'm here for a month but I'd like to get back playing at a higher level.”

Thistle took the lead after 53 minutes when Scott McLean, who looked suspiciously offside, fired in after keeper David Wylie could only parry Paul McGrillen's shot. Things went from bad to worse for Bankies when Rob McKinnon was dismissed for appearing to elbow Steve Docherty in the face. However, the superb Burke grabbed a 63rd-minute leveller. Welsh then struck in the 79th minute and substitute Steve McCormick was unlucky not to extend the lead when his header hit the bar.

Welsh added: “We felt a bit hard done-by when we went down to 10 men and lost a goal - that helped motivate us. I don't score many but I've got a habit of finding the net against Partick Thistle. I grabbed the extra-time goal for Dundee United in the play-offs a few years ago when it looked like Partick were going to relegate us .”

Jags defender Martin Hardie was sent off with four minutes remaining after a second yellow card for kicking Scott Murdoch. Thistle boss John Lambie said: “We were woeful - the whole team was the problem. The goals we lost were diabolical but there's nothing I can do except maybe wring one or two of their necks.”
