Mo Johnston took Hearts through to the fourth round of the Scottish Cup. but this tie will be remembered more for the unsavoury incidents at the end of the first-half. With just a minute left before halftime Partick midfielder Chic Charnley seemed to aim an elbow at John Colqhoun. The Hearts winger retaliated and was shown the red card. But to the anger ofHearts and their supporters Charnley was allowed to remain on the field with only a yellow card. Angry Hearts burst forward seconds later to snatch victory as Johnston found space to shoot low into the net. At the half-time whistle the players and benches of both sides were involved in a skirmish on the way to the dressing rooms. Punches seemed to be thrown and the police moved in. During the second-half events were much calmer and ten-man Hearts withstood two penalty claims to hold out.
