This year's summer's pre-season tour took Thistle back to the Highland League for the second successive year. The first opponents were Buckie Thistle who were a well-organized team. It was the first chance for most supporters to see Marin Clark and Gordon Chisholm in Thistle jerseys and as befits early games it took the defence some time to settle down. Indeed, it was a defensive mistake which led to the home side opening the scoring before DAVID IRONS shot home from 30 yards to equalize.

The second half saw a more determined Thistle and Thistle went ahead when DON McVICAR popped up inside the box to shoot home from 15 yards. Later in the game, the same player collected the ball on the left and ran into the area. His first shot was blocked by the 'keeper, but the ball rebounded and Don shot into the net to get the tour off to a winning start.
