58 years to the day since Thistle's cup win. Whittaker hit the side netting, Somner headed over, Anderson limped off (22), a brilliant save denied Melrose (41). Rangers pressed as Thistle tired but they held on and in his only foray up field, future manager Johnstone headed the winner at the 2nd attempt (86).
