Morton made the early running with Thistle only seen occasionally in attack. They gradually made an impression but it was still 0-0 at half-time. After the substitute had been used, Brown went off injured but the 10 men went ahead when O'Neill scored (53) then a fast low shot by Coulston sealed the win (54).
