Ayr (15th in Div 2) almost scored (1) and posed lots of problems. Dreadful finishing saw Hainey send a ball wide from close in. Ewing headed the opener (40) before Gray gave away a penalty (44). Thistle had most of the play but were “neither convincing nor commanding” (ET) although Hainey hit the post (82).
