TTA report

Despite almost constant pressure Thistle had only one goal to show for their efforts by half-time. The second half was just as close but a second goal eased the nerves and secured the championship but promotion to the first division was only confirmed by committee on 1 June. Lamont and Currie got the goals.

● 21-year-old Robert Gray makes his first-known appearance for Thistle.

● Thistle's title-clinching game made it a certainty that they'd be included in the post-season election ballot for promotion. There was no pre-determined criteria in this season, but it was a given that the champion club would be included. In the end, the Top 4 of the Second Division were nominated as were the bottom 3 of the First Division. Thistle's first promotion by election was verified on the 1st June, 1897.
