Mark Henry Cairns was born on Thursday, 25th September, 1969, in Edinburgh.

The 6' 0 (13st 2lbs) goalkeeper signed for John Lambie's Thistle on Friday, 28th October, 1994, having most recently been with Gala Fairydean.

Aged 25, he made his debut appearance on Friday, 17th February, 1995, in a 2-0 friendly win away to Ayr United.

In doing so, Mark joined the goalies' clean-sheet debutant's club.

He registered the last of his 9 clean-sheets on Saturday, 5th April, 1997, in a 2-0 win away to East Fife in the SFL First Division.

He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 12th April, 1997, in a 4-0 defeat at home to St Johnstone in the SFL First Division, having appeared as a Jag on 25 occasions.

Mark's club-list included Gala Fairydean, Heart of Midlothian, Berwick Rangers, East Stirlingshire, Partick Thistle, Alloa Athletic, Brechin City, Queen's Park, Bo'ness United and Arbroath.

Previously on the books of Hearts, Mark was spotted playing against Thistle for Gala Fairydean in a pre-season friendly. Initially signed as a back up keeper he played a number of games in the Premier League when injuries kept Nelson and Walker out of the side. Upon Walker's departure to Aberdeen Cairns shared the goalkeeping duties for a season with John Hillcoat before signing for Alloa after being given a free transfer in one of the many Firhill clear outs.
