Liam Buchanan |
Liam Buchanan was born on Wednesday, 27th March, 1985, in Edinburgh. The 5' 9 (10st 8lbs) forward signed for Ian McCall's Thistle on Monday, 18th June, 2007, having most recently been with Cowdenbeath. Aged 22, he made his debut appearance on Wednesday, 11th July, 2007, in a 2-0 friendly defeat away to Montrose. Liam scored his first goal for Thistle on Thursday, 19th July, 2007, in a 2-0 friendly win at home to Falkirk. He scored the last of his 45 goals on Saturday, 15th January, 2011, in a 6-1 win at home to Stirling Albion in the SFL First Division. He played his last game for the club on Tuesday, 18th January, 2011, in a 1-0 win at home to Falkirk in the Scottish Cup, having clocked up 122 appearances as a Jag. At September, 2023, Liam's club-list included Cowdenbeath, Partick Thistle, Dunfermline Athletic, Sligo Rovers, Airdrie United, Ayr United, East Fife, Alloa Athletic, Livingston, Raith Rovers, Berwick Rangers and Bonnyrigg Rose. |
A product of the Hearts youth system, Buchanan made his breakthrough at Cowdenbeath. Having spent five years at the Fife club, he joined Scottish Football League First Division side Partick Thistle in June 2007 and subsequently Dunfermline Athletic in January 2011. After spells in the lower divisions of Scottish football, Buchanan then joined Scottish League One side East Fife in July 2013. After a successful time in Methil, he moved to Scottish Championship side Alloa Athletic in July 2014 before signing with Livingston a year later. He then joined Raith Rovers in 2017 and two years later returned for a second spell with Alloa. On the 22nd of June 2022, Buchanan signed for Berwick Rangers of the Lowland Football League where he found some great form, finishing as the League's top scorer. Having finished top competitive scorer with 14 goals in both 2007-08 & 2009-10 seasons, Liam is always fondly remembered by the Thistle support and he returned to Firhill in September 2023 to play in Stuart Bannigan's testimonial match against the current team. Capitalising on some awful laziness, Liam bagged a remarkable 5-minute hat-trick at the death to clinch victory for the away team; Partick Thistle 2 2012-13 Champions Select & Guests 4. Just days later, it came as a bit of a shock when Berwick announced that a financial crisis meant that they couldn't afford to pay his wages; he had been continuing his great scoring form at the start of the 2023-24 campaign at Shielfield Park. With no shortage of offers, Liam opted to sign for Bonnyrigg Rose at the end of September, technically on a loan deal until January 2024 with a view to becoming permanent from thereon. |
