Bio Extra

Clarke was born in London to a Swedish mother, and would visit his maternal grandparents in Skåne County as a child. He attended Shrewsbury House School until the age of 13, when he moved to the St John's School in Leatherhead. As well as playing football, Clarke was enrolled in the elite academy of professional rugby club Harlequins, and represented Surrey County in cricket.

The 20-year-old goalkeeper spent time with the academies of Chelsea and Bournemouth during his youth career before joining Glenavon in Northern Ireland where he would go on to make his professional debut. His performances for the Lurgan Blues caught the attention of Celtic who brought him to Glasgow in 2022, placing him in their B Team where he would feature regularly in the Lowland League. A one-game emergency loan with Airdrieonians in August 2023 was followed by two temporary stints with Ayr United during which he would play 22 first team games and keep five clean sheets.

In July 2025, Clarke committed to a season-long loan deal in the Scottish Championship with Partick Thistle. Thistle Head Coach Mark Wilson said:

We’re very pleased to bring Josh to the club – he’s a young, hungry goalkeeper who’s already had a taste of Championship football and is keen to play more. We came up against him at the back end of last season and you could see that he’s an assured and confident player who has plenty of potential so I’m excited to work with him this season.
