Bio Extra

Prior to signing for Thistle in September 1895, this half-back played with Ibrox Thistle, a short-lived junior outfit from Govan who existed only in the mid 1890s. In December 1895, he got a run-out in the first team, appearing at left back in a disastrous league game at Beechwood Park; Leith Athletic 7 Partick Thistle 0. Despite the scoreline, goalie Crozier was in tremendous form and kept it at 1-0 (an og by Stewart) at the break. Thistle's first shot on target was 2 mins from half-time. Leith scored at will right up until the last minute as Thistle suffered injury after injury. Proudfoot went off injured and 7 others played on injured. Jags hit bottom spot. By the following Saturday, Jones was re-instated at Ibrox Thistle! The writing was on the wall for that club when their team was ripped apart by poachers from both the seniors and juniors at the beginning of 1896-97, and Jones was one who was tempted away by the Ibrox XI, a junior outfit affiliated to Glasgow Rangers and sometimes referred to as Rangers Ibrox XI.
