| Johnny Deakin |
 John Deakin was born on Thursday, 15th May, 1919, in Glasgow. The forward appeared for Donald Turner's Thistle in September, 1940, having most recently been with St Mirren. Aged 21, he made his only appearance on Wednesday, 4th September, 1940, in a 1-0 defeat away to Rangers in the Glasgow Cup. There were no goals for Johnny in his one-off appearance for Thistle. His club-list included Johnstone Juniors, St Mirren, Partick Thistle, Glentoran, Aberdeen, Brentford, Clyde, Linfield and Bangor. John died on Wednesday, 22nd May, 1963, in Belfast, aged 44. |
 Johnny Deakin was primarily known as a St Mirren player but made one appearance for Thistle in a Glasgow Cup 1-0 defeat at Ibrox in September 1940. Johnny joined St Mirren in 1937 and carved out a career as an inside left with the club. During World War II he joined the Army, and when in Ireland he turned out for Glentoran. He guested for Aberdeen in 1943, and Brentford the following year. He made 280 appearances for St Mirren scoring 46 goals. Post war he returned to St Mirren and was awarded a single Scottish international cap in 1946, in a 2-2 Hampden draw with Belgium. He went back to Ireland and played for Linfield, Bangor and Glentoran (again) before retiring in 1955.
