 John Ross was born on Thursday, 15th March, 1945, in Springburn, Glasgow. The defender signed for Willie Thornton's Thistle on Friday, 29th September, 1967, having most recently been with Kilsyth Rangers. Aged 22, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 20th January, 1968, in a 2-1 defeat away to Stirling Albion in the SFL First Division. There were no goals for John during his spell with Thistle. He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 5th October, 1968, in a 3-3 draw away to Morton in the SFL First Division, having appeared as a Jag on 6 occasions. John's club-list included Kilsyth Rangers and Partick Thistle. |

 John played with 25th Sprinburn Company Boys Brigade who competed in the Glasgow Churches League. Rangers scouts were keeping an eye on his progress at the turn of the decade, but it would be Kilsyth Rangers who gave him his start in the mens game. He started playing regularly for Partick Thistle reserves in 1967-68 alongside such defenders as John Hansen and Sandy Caddell. Manager Willie Thornton handed John his first-team start in January 1968, but the 2-1 defeat to bottom-of-the-table Stirling Albion did little good for his prospects. John finally he got a run of 4 consecutive League games under his belt early in 1968-69 season, two under Willie Thornton and two under the new boss, Scot Symon, but he was soon back in the reserves by November, and it was as a second eleven player that he played out his time at Thistle. John featured in two reserve wins over Celtic that season, 3-1, home and away. He was freed in April 1969 and that was the end of his footballing career in senior terms. |
