John McNaught was born on Friday, 19th June, 1964, in Glasgow.

The 5' 11 (11st 12lbs) midfielder signed for Billy Lamont's Thistle in December, 1987, having most recently been with Chelsea.

Aged 23, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 19th December, 1987, in a 3-1 defeat at home to Dumbarton in the SFL First Division.

John scored his first goal for Thistle on Friday, 1st January, 1988, in a 2-1 win away to Clyde in the SFL First Division.

He scored the last of his 5 goals on Saturday, 26th March, 1988, in a 1-0 win at home to Clyde in the SFL First Division.

That turned out to be his last game for the club, having appeared as a Jag on 14 occasions.

His club-list included Hamilton Academical, Chelsea, Partick Thistle and Blantyre Victoria.

John died on Saturday, 7th June, 1997, aged 32.

Bio Extra

Worzel was a hard-running midfield player who moved to Chelsea from Hamilton before signing for Thistle in 1987. Troubled with injury he played only occasionally, and at the end of the season rejoined Hamilton. There he played only three games before having to give up the game due to illness.
