John Lapsley was born on Saturday, 24th November, 1951, in Edinburgh.

The 5' 9½ (10st 12lbs) defender signed for Bertie Auld's Thistle on Saturday, 15th March, 1980, having most recently been with Airdrieonians.

Aged 28, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 19th April, 1980, in a 2-1 defeat at home to St Mirren in the SFL Premier Division.

There were no goals for John during his time with Thistle.

He played his last game for the club on Wednesday, 22nd September, 1982, in a 3-0 defeat at home to Celtic in the League Cup, having appeared as a Jag on 75 occasions.

John's club-list included Linlithgow Rose, Airdrieonians, Partick Thistle, Ayr United, East Stirlingshire, Stenhousemuir, Cowdenbeath, Hamilton Academical, Falkirk, Dunfermline Athletic and Brechin City.

John was signed by Bertie Auld from Airdrie at the end of 79/80 season. Played mostly at left back, but he also played on the left side of midfield and did a competent job, playing regularly in the next two seasons. Never one of the star players, he left the club at the start of 82/83 to join Ayr. Subsequently played for Hamilton, Cowdenbeath, Ayr again, Dunfermline. Stenhousemuir. East Stirling, Falkirk and Brechin.
