John Alexander Kane was born on Monday, 8th June, 1987, in Glasgow. The 6' 2 (10st 8lbs) defender signed for Dick Campbell's Thistle on Friday, 14th July, 2006, having most recently been with Motherwell. Aged 19, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 15th July, 2006, in a 2-1 friendly win away to Lancaster City. There were no goals for John during his time with Thistle. He played his last game for the club on Tuesday, 23rd January, 2007, in a 0-0 draw at home to Rangers XI in a Benefit match, having appeared as a Jag on 11 occasions. John's club-list included Hibernian, Motherwell, Partick Thistle, Glenafton Athletic, Stranraer, Creighton Bluejays, Stirling Albion, Clyde, Pollok and Carluke Rovers. |
Kane came through the youth system at Hibernian. He made his Scottish Premier League debut at the age of 16 against Livingston in April 2004, coming on as a late substitute for Kevin Thomson. Although a Scotland Underβ18 international, this was to be his only first-team appearance for Hibs, and he joined Motherwell in the January 2005 transfer window. After a spell at Partick Thistle, he briefly dropped to Junior level with Glenafton Athletic before signing for Stranraer in June 2007, under the management of former Motherwell team-mate Gerry Britton. A successful spell at the club saw him named player of the year two seasons running before leaving for the US and a year at Creighton University in Nebraska. Kane returned to Scotland with Stirling Albion in 2010 before rejoining Stranraer for a second spell. Kane signed for Clyde in June 2012. He finished his career in the juniors with Pollok and Carluke Rovers. |
