John George Hillcoat was born on Wednesday, 16th December, 1970, in Paisley, Renfrewshire.

The 5' 11 (10st 10lbs) goalkeeper signed for Murdo MacLeod's Thistle on Friday, 11th October, 1996, having most recently been with Hamilton Academical.

Aged 25, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 12th October, 1996, in a 6-0 win at home to East Fife in the SFL First Division.

In doing so, John joined the goalies' clean-sheet debutant's club.

He registered the last of his 7 clean-sheets on Saturday, 8th February, 1997, in a 0-0 draw at home to St Mirren in the SFL First Division.

He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 10th May, 1997, in a 2-0 defeat away to St Mirren in the SFL First Division, having appeared as a Jag on 27 occasions.

John's club-list included Dunfermline Athletic, Clyde, Hamilton Academical, Partick Thistle, Clydebank, Glenafton Athletic, Greenock Morton, Queen of the South, Dumbarton, St Mirren, Stranraer, Ayr United, Brechin City, Stenhousemuir, East Stirlingshire, St Johnstone and Alloa Athletic.

Goalkeeper whose tour of Scottish clubs took in Firhill during the 96/97 season. Dislodged Mark Cairns from the Thistle goal during the course of that season and turned in a number of fine displays. Left Firhill on a free transfer and went on to have spells at Morton, Hamilton, Queen of the South, and St Mirren.
