John Ferguson was probably born in Scotland, although his place and date of birth remain unknown to us. * The forward signed for Thistle on Tuesday, 20th October, 1896, having most recently been with Third Lanark. He made his first known appearance on Friday, 24th October, 1896, in a 9-2 win at home to Newton Stewart in the Scottish Qualifying Cup. John scored his first known goal for Thistle on Saturday, 7th November, 1896, in a 5-2 defeat at home to Kilmarnock in the Scottish Qualifying Cup. He scored the last of his 26 known goals on Saturday, 22nd October, 1898, in a 3-2 win away to St Bernard's in the SFL First Division. He played his last known game for the club on Tuesday, 30th April, 1901, in a 2-0 defeat at home to St Mirren in the Western League, having appeared for the Thistle on at least 53 occasions. His club-list included Jordanhill Juniors, Blackburn Rovers, Hibernian, Third Lanark and Partick Thistle. We don't know where or when John died. *
